Nando, menino de Jardim São Paulo; com seus 14 anos para ajudar sua família pensou e foi comprar uma chuteira, pois entendia que com os pés na BOLA ganharia dinheiro.
Num domingo a equipe do Ipiranga, com seu treinador Almir Prego, se preparavam para mais uma partida na cidade de Moreno.
Como faltava atletas para completar o time, Almir foi a casa de Nando, e pediu permissão a seu pai (Sr. Santana) para levar o seu filho.
Liberado, foi todo serelepe subir no caminhão que os levavam para o grande encontro. Entusiasmado o garoto tímido olhava para os craques: Nido Chumbinho, Mané Touro, Jerônimo, Ivan BOÇÂN, e se perguntava como seria sua estréia?
Contentei-me com a camisa 11(ponta-esquerda) que era do jogador/treinador.
O mais importante, era jogar. Mal sabia eu, que estava sendo observado por Seu Chico da Usina, que ao lado de Baixa(lateral do Sport Recife), ficavam vendo o desempenho do menino Nando.
Após o jogo, fui apresentado aos dois e contratado para ficar atuando pela Usina. Foram na minha casa e acertarm com meu pai, dando 1 salário mínimo se jogasse pelo menos 4 partidas no mês. Que bom, pois cedo passei a ‘ arrimo ‘ contribuindo com as despesas da casa.
Como era de menor iam me apanhar e levar num Jipe de marca CANDANGO. Achava o máximo, e entendi que com determinação e aplicação poderia tornar-me PROFISSIONAL. A oportunidade estava ali na minha frente. Papai dizia: olha lá HEM, se não estudar não joga NÃO.
O que HOJE não entendo é por quê BAIXA e seu Chico não oportunizaram um TESTE no Sport Clube do Recife, pois eram rubro-negros.
Bom para o Santa Cruz que logo depois descobriu nos jogos colegiais e levou Nando( Fernando Santana ) para o Ninho da Cobra Coral.

Fernando joguei no infantil do Santa na época que vc. era profissional do Santa,ao lado do seu primo “Giba”.
Pude observar a atenção e carinho que tratava a todos,
principalmente a nós garotos sonhadores.
Sua geração foi de grande importancia para nossa formação,além dos inúmeros títulos dado ao santinha e enorme alegria dispensada a enorme galera coral.
Acredito que jogando hoje vc. teria mais sucesso que qualquer Bala da vida,pois és brilhante dentro e fora das 4 linhas. Um abraço.
